HPKCHC Arithmancy Assignment October 2009

Welcome to Arithmancy!

Please take out parchment and quills.

This month we will be learning the term: ”Binary”.

Binary means: composed of two parts or two pieces.

In Mathematics, a binary function, or function of two variables, is a function which takes two inputs.

For your assignment this month:

Knitters/ crochetters:

  1. Two items that complement each other or make a set. For example, matching gloves and scarf. Or a scarf and a hat. (Note: a pair of gloves counts as just one item). Make them as a set. Please explain why you would wear them together. They don’t HAVE to be the same color but they have to match in some way. or
.

When one has two friends in the wizarding world with similiar tastes, to make something for one and not the other could result in problems......

....... especially when one is Narcissa Malfoy and the other works for the Ministry as an auror! So below is my solution, two sets of [Josephine Gauntlets](pattern), one in Narcissa's Slytherin Green and one in Auror Piper Poplartree's favorite color purple!

NAIME Arithmancy Mini Challenge

Assignment:

August 14-22 Arithmancy is the study of numbers, how they interrelate and the patterns created by specific sequences. Often one thinks of large complex charts when the subject is approached, however, with this mini challenge we will focus on one the simple aspects. We will only be changing one variable and compare the results. For this practical challenge we will be ::gasp:: swatching. Using the same yarn & stitch pattern & only changing the size needles used, make at least two 4x4inch swatches. Each set MUST have at least 2 swatches in the same yarn, same pattern, but using different sized needles/hooks. (Larger swatches may be made, 4x4 is the minimum size accepted.) When turning in your challenge pieces, please include information on yarn, needle sizes used, stitch pattern, the stitches per inch obtained, and Rows per inch. (The usual information you should note when swatching!)

HPKCHC Arithmancy Assignment May 2009

Dragonsinger of Hufflepuff submitting her Streeler completed for class. Made from the Swedish Snail pattern, for those unfamiliar with it, the streeler is a giant snail that is native to Africa, but has been successfuly bred by Wizards in Europe, Asia and North America. The Streeler changes colour on a hourly basis, and leaves behind a trail of venom so toxic that it burns all vegetation that it touches. It is kept as a pet by those who enjoy its Kaleidoscopic colour changes . Streeler venom is one of the few known substances that can kill Horklumps.

and on a side note, Pontalbon still rocks *grins*
